At the last minute we decided to run the 70 mile Cumbrian Way over the Bank Holiday weekend. I've often seen the signs in the Central & Northen Fells but have never linked it all together in one journey. A flurry of logistics got vehicles and camping equipment in place and we caught the train to Ulverston on Saturday morning. Following the Crake Valley north in glorious sunshine we could see the bad weather approaching over the fells. However we made it to Beacon Tarn before the first squalls hit. Coniston was reached in 4 hours 15 where we stopped to refuel on tea and cakes. The final few miles to the tent at Elterwater took another 2 hours. The pubs were rammed so we had the old faithful of pasta & sauce before an early night.
