Alpine conditions in the Lakes
Well conditions were too good to miss. I went for a quick blast up High Pike on my way to Scotland. There wasn't a breath of wind or a cloud in the sky over the Northern Fells. The snow pack is starting to consolidate but the breakable crust meant it was still slow going and there were some very deep drifts in the hollows. It's a combination of an icy crust, soft windslab and powder.
The roads up to Fort William were in very good shape despite the continued cold temperatures. There is still some snow at sea level and with a good weather forecast it's looking like it's going to be a stunning week.
