The initial rocky steps on the east ridge of Beinn Chaoarainn
This week I'm climbing with Andrew & Heather, members of the Adventure Peaks 2011 Everest team. With only a few weeks to go before departure this is their final chance to perfect their technique on mixed terrain, build some hill fitness and enjoy some of the best mountain days in Scotland. On a similar week last year we managed Curved Ridge, Ledge Route, Golden Oldie and the Aonach Eagach.
With lots of new snow around and a high avalanche risk we opted to climb the east ridge of Beinn Chaoarainn. This was a popular option with another eight teams on the route giving a very sociable climb. We kept the difficulty high climbing each of the towers direct giving plenty of grade III ground. Other groups focusing on mountaineering and moving together were able to stay on grade I ground throughout.
