Classic Mamores

Stunning ridge walking in the Mamores.

With a reasonable forecast we opted to head up in to the Mamores above Kinlochleven which give some quiet and almost alpine like ridges. Today was the first time in crampons for Jude and Sue but they coped extremely well with everything the mountain threw at them - exposed ridges, sheet ice, knee deep snow and rocky mixed terrain. We were able to tick a couple of Munros as well before a quick glissade back to the valley floor.

The strong south westerly was building the cornices before our eyes and there was a lot of windslab around including a few pockets on south west slopes. Tomorrows thaw will mean a lot of avalanche activity but another freeze will then give some great conditions.
