Wet snow avalanche at 300m on Blencathra from Dec 2011
Tonight I've been running an avalanche session for Langdale & Ambleside Mountain Rescue. The current trend is very much to move away from snow pit assessments taking a more holistic approach to gathering evidence and interpreting the risk. We covered an hours theory looking at UK and Lake District avalanches before heading out for a practical session. With no snow to be seen the transceiver search in the local park was a wee bit contrived but great fun under a full moon.
